Toast of Surrey: Something Big Ltd

February 11, 2011

NAMED after the founder’s favourite Dean Martin film, Something Big has grown from a one-man band based in a back bedroom in to an established design agency.

The Knaphill-based company was founded in 2000 by Nick Butcher and now employs 12 workers.

It has reached the final three in the creative industries category at the Toast of Surrey Business Awards.

Something Big provides bespoke design services from brand identity and advertising to merchandising and packaging and marketing and corporate communications. Clients include national and local businesses from both the private and public sectors and the agency has a particularly strong track record in the areas of hospitality and education.

Last year the company won ten new clients in ten weeks and is looking to continue its success in to 2011.

Director Sally Pritchett said her firm should win the award as it was fixed on the needs of customers and had a ‘dogged determination’ to stay ahead of the competition.

She added: “Secondly, because we are truly passionate about what we do and the fact we are doing it right here in Surrey.

“It’s a great place to live, work and thrive and this is exactly what our game plan is for the next ten years.”

Aside from their corporate success, the company is active in the community in the county.

Something Big is a member of the Surrey Chambers of Commerce and plan to become a corporate partner of Surrey Wildlife Trust.

It is also committed to employee development and all but one of the team are from the county.

Something Big undertook its first full-scale customer satisfaction survey last year and introduced a system for requesting reviews and feedback from new clients.

The music for Something Big, namely the theme song, is a gem. I bought the sheet music way back when and still occasionally play the song on the piano. Complicated rhythms!
