He is almost 15 and loves John Lennon, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin.

Hey pallies, likes it is always always so so cool to find 'nother of today's youth who truly truly loves our Dino. Yesterday was drawn to a blog tagged "Sharpshooters International" where pallies from all over the globe loves to post their fav pixs. Among the pictoral posts on "Wednesday photo of the week" is one by a lady tagged Stacy who hails from Allen, Texas.

Likes Miss Stacy chose to share a snapshot of her oldest child, boypallie Drake, who at "almost 15" is "an old soul, through and through." And who does this teenager love...."John Lennon, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin." Likes how thrillin' to know that Mr. Drake digs our Dino! Likes I get so psyched up when I read of 'nother of the younger generation who is a true Deanager!

So, hats off to Miss Stacy for sharin' the news of her boypallie Deanager Drake's devotion to our most beloved Dino. Simply stunnin' pallies to know that tons of today's teenagers are becomin' hooked on our amazin' Dino! To view this in it's original format, likes just clicks on the tag of this Dino-gram. Dino-devotedly, DMP

Here’s my photo this week. Any time people are dealing with things with their kids, it makes me think an extra moment about my own. This is my oldest, Drake. I had him when I was pretty young (barely 20) and as a result, he and I have a very special relationship. He is an old soul, through and through. He is almost 15 and loves John Lennon, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. He plays guitar and reads books far beyond what normal teenagers are interested in. He is a beautiful person who makes me proud and makes me feel like I’ve done something right in this life every single day. He’s also a great sport whenever I ask him to come outside and let me take pics of him.

FROM THE EMAIL BAG: Martin Memorialized.

Hey pallies, likes cool to be able to share with you dudes that our pallies Frank and Joe over at the ubber classic flick pad, "Classic Movie Chat," have 'gain lifted up the name of our Dino featurin' some patter yours truly left when I quired 'em why they were surprised by my deep, pure, and true appreciato for Mr. Nick Tosches' amazin' Dino-bio, "Dino: Living High In The Dirty Business Of Dreams."

FROM THE EMAIL BAG: Martin Memorialized.

Finally, our uber-Dean Martin enthusiast, Dino Martin Peters poses this question about March 7 blog covering biographies of the singer-actor:

Hey pallies, Mr. Frank and Mr. Joe likes …now you got me wonderin’ by your words, ‘Well, Dino in his inimitable prose style surprised us with the following…’

Gotta ‘fess up that I am likes totally totally surprised that youse all were ‘surprised’ by my Dino-reflections on Nick Tosches’ tome. Might I ask you to say more ’bout what surprised you and why?

We were a tad surprised, given your feelings about Martin, to read of your unqualified enthusiasm for author Nick Tosches’ 1999 biography Dino: Living High In The Dirty Business Of Dreams.

Unlike books about the late actor-singer by his children, Tosches’ takes a tougher stance towards Martin, and doesn’t hesitate to criticize him. Give your enthusiasm for Dino, we thought this might not sit well. Glad it does.

On This Day In Dino-history: March 29, 1973

Hey pallies, today is 'nother very important Dino-date to remember. It was on this date, March 29 in 1973 that our Dino's divorce from his second wife, Jeanne Biegger, was finalized.

Dino has originally sought the divorce from Jeanne after he met, while playin' in 'Vegas, 21 year old Miss Gail Renshaw. Our most beloved Dino was totally totally smitten by Renshaw, then serving as Miss USA. That amore cooled after a time, and at the point that our Dino's divorce was finalized he was engaged to Miss Catherine Mae Hawn, a 24 year old beauty parlor receptionist...who would then become Mrs Dean Martin less then a month after our Dino's divorce was finished.

Represented here are pixs of our Dino with all three of his amores, Miss Jeanne, Miss Gail, and Miss Catherine Mae. Keeps learnin' those Dino-facts pallies, and likes above all else...Keeps lovin' our Dino! Dino-learnin', DMP

Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? (1963) - Film Locations

Hey pallies, likes today we makes a quick return to our new pallie Robby Crest's awesome blog, "Dear Old Hollywood." Likes how cool to see original Dino-images from the shootin' of this Dino-flick side-by-side with modern day shots of those same places!!!! Mr. Crest indeed has a very unique accent to his blog, and this Dino-focused post shows off Robby's passion likes to the max.

Certainly, "Whose Been Sleeping In My Bed" is one of our Dino's lesser known film efforts, but Mr. Robby Crest has done yoeman's effort in the cause of raisin' the level of Dino-knowledge 'bout said big screen effort.

Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? (1963) - Film Locations

Dean Martin at grand opening for Market Basket

Originally, I was going to post part two of The Big Fix (1978) film locations, but I decided to push that back to next week to make way for the swingin', crooning, Italoamericano, Dean Martin.

In the film Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? (1963) Martin plays a doctor on a popular television show, particularly popular with female audiences. He is engaged to cute art teacher, Melissa Morris (Elizabeth Montgomery) who wants to get married but who is upset with Martin for delaying their wedding plans. Things get worse when all of the wives of Martin's poker playing friends, confusing Martin for his television persona, start coming to him for advice on their marital doldrums. Each encounter with his friends' wives makes Martin even more disenchanted with the idea of marriage and he decides to break his engagement with Melissa. With the help of her friend Stella (Carole Burnett), Melissa comes up with a plan to get Martin to propose to her again.

Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? (1963) may not be one of Dean Martin's best films, but it does have some funny moments, especially a couple with a scene stealing Carole Burnett appearing in her film debut. Other notable stars supporting Martin include Jill St. John and Richard Conte. The film also features a few interesting film locations, including scenes at Paramount Studios, a Market Basket supermarket, and the Beverly Hills Hotel swimming pool.

The film starts with Dean Martin appearing as the celebrity TV doctor at the grand opening of a Market Basket supermarket. This was a grocery chain and the location used in the film was one that was once located at 11315 Ventura Boulevard, Studio City, California. Interesting to note is that this Studio City location had its grand opening in 1963, the same year as this film. The Market Basket supermarket is now gone and today the building is used as a Bally Total Fitness.

After Martin makes his appearance at the Market Basket grand opening we see Martin take off in his car. While driving, Martin leaves Studio City behind and gets on the 405 freeway heading south. In the next comparison below, Martin is on the 405 freeway with a view of Sherman Oaks in the background.

Stella arranges a phony wedding for Melissa, hoping it will make Martin jealous. The scene takes place at the pool of the Beverly Hills Hotel, located at 9461 Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Hills, California. The pool area looks much different today. The hotel has expanded since the 1960s.

There are a few scenes that take place on the Paramount Studios lot. It's at this studio where Martin's character films his television medical drama. All of the scenes were shot on what is known as "Avenue P" of the Paramount lot.

It's this same area of the Paramount Studios lot that was so famously used in the classic film Sunset Boulevard (1950). Stage 18 is the same stage where in Sunset Boulevard Gloria Swanson goes to visit Cecil B. Demille.

Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? (1963) is another Swinging Sixties sex comedy, similar to a couple other films I've covered here on Dear Old Hollywood: Sex and the Single Girl (1964) starring Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Henry Fonda, Lauran Bacall, and Mel Ferrer and Bachelor in Paradise (1961) starring Bob Hope and Lana Turner.

Who's Got the Action? (1962) - Film Locations

Hey pallies, likes today is 'nother great great day for our most beloved Dino, 'cause on this very day March 27, 2012 'nother of our great man's great sex farces is seein' the light of day on regular as well as Blue Ray DVD! After a huge huge wait pallies, today marks the day that the 1962 big screen caper "Who's Got The Action" is bein' released for our Dino-viewin' pleasure.

And, likes in honor of this new release, ilovedinomartin has found a 'nother great new-to-ilovedinomartin blog, "Dear Old Hollywood" where Hollywood media mogel Mr. Robby Crest hangs his hat. Cress' blog has the special mission of "Exploring Hollywood, Los Angeles, and the Valley, with a nostalgic look to the past, while still enjoying the present."

Mr Cress' post featurin' our beloved Dino in his 1962 sex farce classic, "Who's Got The Action" shows just how creatively Robby is in mixin' past and present Hollywood locations. So sits back and enjoys this pictoral review of "Who's Got The Action.

Likes very very cool to have such an outstandin' post on this new Dino-release to gets all us pallies in the mood to gets our hands on 'nother big screen Dino-effort.

Who's Got the Action? (1962) - Film Locations

Dean Martin and Lana Turner headline this story about a man with a gambling addiction (Martin) and his wife (Turner) who does what she can to make sure her husband doesn't lose all of their money. The setup is quite a stretch. Turner has Martin's law partner (Eddie Albert) lead Martin to believe that Albert has found the best bookie in town, that bookie, being Martin's wife. The idea is if Martin loses then the money will stay in the household, but unfortunately, Martin goes on a winning streak, forcing Turner to sell their possessions to cover the winnings. Meanwhile, a real bookie in town (Walter Matthau ) is wondering who it is that is getting all the action?

Despite the tagline claiming to be "the most riotous bedtime story ever!" Who's Got the Action? (1962), really isn't that riotous at all. Even at an hour and a half the movie feels long. Most of the gags just are not that funny and the plot struggles to unfold. I think a more appropriate tagline would be "a mildly amusing bedtime story,"because the film does have some merits.

My favorite part of Who's Got the Action? is seeing Matthau in one of his early film roles. He's the most fun to watch and steals every scene he is in. I also liked the 1960s set designs, particularly the interior of the apartment where Martin and Turner live.

The apartment building where Martin and Turner live is the Talmadge apartments located at 3278 Wilshire Boulevard. This building was built by Joseph M. Schenck in 1922 for his wife, the silent screen actress, Norma Talmadge.

The Talmadge apartments as seen in the film.

The Talmadge building as it appears today.

The screenshot below shows Martin and Turner leaving the Talmadge apartments and driving down Wilshire Boulevard. They're in the red car, passing Immanuel Presbyterian Church.

Below is a side view of Immanuel Presbyterian Church looking across South Berendo Street from the Talmadge apartment building.

Presbyterian Church is in the background.

Each day Turner walks to the newsstand outside of the Thrifty drug store to read the paper and see the results of the horse races. The Thrifty drug store was located at 3333 Wilshire Boulevard, just a couple blocks down from the Talmadge apartment building. The Thrifty drug store is gone and now a modern office building, completed in 1983, stands in its place.

Turner fainted when she saw the results of the races. Eddie Albert helps Turner back to her apartment. In the screenshot below we can see the Talmadage apartment building a couple blocks up in the background. The building in the foreground is a bank and that building is still being used as a bank today.

A year later, in 1963, Dean Martin made another "bedtime story" comedy called Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? That film isn't a knee jerker either, but it is closer to the "riotous" tagline that this film claims. You can see some of the film locations from Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? here.

Who's Got the Action? is currently available as a Watch Instantly title on Netflix and will be released on DVD on March 27, 2012.

Let your light turn green
Baby, I've gotta know
Give me some kind of clue
Should I stay or go?

Let me love you like the lover
That you used to know
Turn the key and let me in
Through that same old door

Oh I had it, but I lost it
Now I've got a broken heart to mend
But I don't care what the cost is
I've got to find my way back in

So you just snap your fingers
Baby, I'll come runnin'
I'll do anything
To get back again

I had it
oh, but I've lost it
Now I've got a broken heart to mend
I don't care what the cost is
I've got to find my way back in

So you just snap your fingers
And baby I'll come runnin'
I'll do anything
To get back again, yeah

On This Day In Dino-history: March 23, 1949

Hey pallies, likes today is 'nother memorable day in the life and times of our most beloved Dino. It was on this date, March 23, in the year of 1949 that our Dino's divorce to his first wife Elizabeth Anne McDonald was finalized. this film is all about who does Dean Martin’s character bed, who did he bed – and who won’t he bed"

Hey pallies, likes our search for deep, pure, and true Dino-devotion takes us this day to Deutschland where we meet classic film aficionado Miss Irene Palfy. Palfy shared a blog pad tagged "Let the Show begin" with our Dino-lovin' pallie Mr. Monty Hawes, and her most recent post likes puts the accent on most beloved Dino in that big screen classic from 1963, "Toys In The Attic."

Likes I recently grabbed my own copy of the DVD of Miss Lillian Hellman's broadway smash hit, but haven't had the op to view it (so much Dino, so little time to spend time with him)....but likes after readin' this stellar review, I am certainly gonna puts this Dino-flick on the top of my Dino-viewin' list!

Miss Irene does a credible job of lettin' us in on the plot of this flick, and her review includes some amazin' pixs...mostly of our Dino and other cast members. Likes I loves the pix of our great man amorin' with the great Yvette Mimieux. It's clear that our Dino really burns up the screen in this flick and likes Palfy states, "this film is all about who does Dean Martin’s character bed, who did he bed – and who won’t he bed."

It is always always likes so thrillin' to find 'nother lover of our Dino praisin' one of his lesser known works. So, likes kudos goes out to Miss Irene Palfry for bringin' this Dino-riffic flick to the attentinado of her blog readership. To view this in it's original format, likes just clicks on the tag of this Dino-message. Keeps lovin' and viewin' our Dino! Dino-amazed, DMP

Let's watch.. ..TOYS IN THE ATTIC (1963)

Usually when one thinks of Gene Tierney - the films that come to one's mind might be those of her "career's peak" like e.g. LAURA (1944) and LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN (1945). Wonderful films indeed - but today I'd like to highlight a film of hers which features her in her second to last big movie (excluding some TV movies of course):

TOYS IN THE ATTIC (1963)

Julian Berniers (Dean Martin) isn’t very successful – in his live he lost a big amount of money. But now he is back to his home town New Orleans - visiting his two spinster sisters Carrie (Geraldine Page) and Anna (Wendy Hiller). With him he brings a lot of expensive presents - and his young and pretty wife Lily (Yvette Mimieux).

Lily's very rich mother, high society lady Albertine Prine (Gene Tierney), isn’t at all fond of Julian - but that’s not his biggest problem: Without the knowing of his wife and sisters he wants to help Charlotte Warkins (Nan Martin), an old flame of his who is married to a gangster (Larry Gates).

Lily is jealous – but even worse is Carrie – who is madly in love with her brother (in a way which is not very far from incest - but Julian is completely unware of that..) and she makes Lily call the husband of Charlotte..

~ Dean Martin and Gene Tierney ~

The film is based on the very successful play by Lillian Hellman. If you watch out you might spot in this film Joe Grey in a bar as an uncredited extra. He was a good friend of (and for a long time a double for) Dean Martin. They appeared together in about 16 films. Joe Grey also was a friend of Frank Sinatra - together they appeared in 10 of Sinatra's films.

~ Dean Martin and Yvette Mimieux ~

Though this film is all about who does Dean Martin’s character bed, who did he bed – and who won’t he bed: the best in this are the scenes of Wendy Hiller – of course I am a big fan of hers so not only maybe I am prejudiced in this aspect..

~ Frank Silvera and Gene Tierney ~

Gene Tierney is also really wonderful. She is perfect as an elderly society lady - still looking beautiful. She does her scenes in a very elegant - and partly a bit impish way.
I may step on some toes when I say that I think Yvette Mimieux looks at some moments more like she wa Dean Martin’s daughter than his wife – but I think this is one important aspect of the story: a more aged and by that maybe selfassured woman would have more trust into her husband (I guess.. I wasn't married to any men yet..) – and Miss Mimieux is doing her part quite well.

After all: the whole cast is really wonderful.

~ Dean Martin, Wendy Hiller (like me he loves her!! ..) - and Geraldine Page ~

There is one scene which really is a but heavy: Charlotte’s face gets cut with a knife. Frankly: That is a really shocking scene - for those who are not fond of any kind of brutality in films - or trained by watching Horror films.. So please: If you are not easy with this kind of scenes – make sure to have someone in reach who can tell you that it’s over..

~ Geraldine Page and Dean Martin.
this is from an amazingly done scene - it's all in the looks.. ~

Besides that I really can recommend this film to everyone who likes a good drama.

Thank you very much for listening!

Enjoy the show!

Yours

Irene
